Building the Future of Peer Review

At the heart of NudgEd's mission lies a bold ambition: to build a global network of qualified, committed experts who are as invested in the quality of peer review as they are in their own research. We believe that the future of academic publishing depends not only on the brilliance of its authors, but equally on the dedication and expertise of its reviewers. The two are inseparable.

The peer review system, one of the most important traditions in scholarly publishing, is under strain. Delays are growing, qualified reviewers are increasingly difficult to find, and the immense effort that goes into evaluating a manuscript often goes unrecognized. NudgEd exists, in part, to change that. Together with our reviewer community, we aim to elevate the standard of peer review, ensure that it is conducted with the highest ethical and intellectual integrity, and protect this tradition for the generations of researchers who will inherit it.

Reviewers’ Contribution and Rewards

NudgEd invites researchers working at the intersection of artificial intelligence and education across disciplines to register as reviewers and play an active role in advancing knowledge in this field. Our reviewers are essential to the integrity and quality of everything we publish, and we hold the review process to the highest standard, not only in scholarly rigor but in the values that guide it.

Tone and Professionalism

We ask every reviewer to approach their evaluations with the same respect and care they would wish to receive for their own work. The anonymous nature of peer review is designed to protect fairness. It is not an invitation for dismissive or disrespectful language. All feedback should be constructive, thoughtful, and compassionate. Reviewers who do not uphold this standard will be removed from the journal's database. At NudgEd, how you say something matters just as much as what you say.

Confidentiality

Every manuscript submitted to NudgEd is a confidential document and must be treated as such throughout the review process and beyond. Reviewers must not share, distribute, or repurpose any part of a manuscript for personal research, publication, or any other purpose. Importantly, manuscripts must not be uploaded to any large language model platform or AI-based tool for the purpose of generating partial or complete feedback. The review must be entirely the reviewer's own intellectual contribution. Any breach of confidentiality will be treated with the utmost seriousness.

Integrity and Transparency

We expect our reviewers to act with complete transparency. Any potential conflict of interest must be disclosed to the editorial office immediately upon recognizing it. If a reviewer suspects plagiarism, data manipulation, ethical misconduct, or any other irregularity, we ask that this be communicated to the editors without delay.

Timeline

One of the core commitments at NudgEd is to reduce the frustration that authors across the scholarly community know all too well: the long, often unexplained delays that follow submission. We believe authors deserve better, and that belief is reflected in how we structure our review process.

Reviewers are expected to return their evaluations within two working weeks (14 working days) from the date of assignment. This is not a guideline. It is a commitment. By accepting a review assignment, you are agreeing to deliver a thorough, high-quality evaluation within this timeframe.

We compensate our reviewers for their work, and in return we expect timely and rigorous delivery. If you are currently unable to dedicate the time and attention that a quality review demands, whether due to travel, workload, or any other reason, we respectfully ask that you decline the assignment. A delayed or poorly executed review does not only affect the journal; it affects a fellow researcher who is waiting for a fair and timely response to months or years of dedicated work.

Reviews that do not meet the journal's quality standards will not be eligible for compensation, and repeated failure to meet expectations will result in removal from future review opportunities with NudgEd.

Compensation and Recognition

NudgEd offers each reviewer a compensation of 100 USD, payable through PayPal, for every completed review that meets our quality standards. We recognize that this is a modest amount. But it represents something far larger than its face value. It is a deliberate gesture of appreciation for the intellectual labor, the time, and the scholarly rigor that reviewers dedicate to the advancement of knowledge.

For too long, the academic publishing system has relied on the goodwill of its scientific community without meaningfully honoring the effort behind peer review. NudgEd is intentionally challenging that paradigm. We believe that if we ask our reviewers to deliver excellence, we must also demonstrate that their contribution is valued in tangible and not only symbolic terms.

This compensation will grow over time as the journal earns its reputation, achieves indexing milestones, and strengthens its financial position. In the journal's initial years, all articles will be published in an open access model at no cost to authors. This, combined with reviewer compensation, represents a substantial financial commitment from the publisher. It is one we accept willingly and with conviction, because building a fairer publishing ecosystem is not a footnote in our mission. It is the mission.

Once submitted, each review will be assessed against the journal's internal evaluation rubric. Compensation is provided for reviews that meet our quality standards. If a review does not meet expectations, the editorial office will provide detailed feedback explaining the decision. Consistent failure to meet the journal's standards may result in removal from the reviewer database.
